Investigation
Structural Investigations often begin with initial structural inspections such as a foundation inspection or framing inspection and involve visual structural inspection of elements readily accessible and visible. Structural Investigations are important for establishing and understanding existing conditions, structural framing, and past performance. They are used to provide structural assessments of existing conditions, identify issues, determine potential sources and/or causes of issues, analyze existing load paths and capacities, and provide direction for structural alterations or repairs. Investigations provide information for design and repair services for existing structures. Learn more about SFI’s Structural Engineering Investigation services.
Design
Structural Design is most often associated with new building design; however, it is also an important part of building alterations and structural repairs. Structural engineers design building structures to safely resist the gravity and lateral design loads imposed on the building structure down to the foundation and supporting soils. Various structural materials and systems are utilized to accomplish a safe structural design. SFI’s Structural Engineering Design services include conceptual design, design development, construction documents, and construction administration services to observe general conformance to the construction documents and address issues during construction. Repair
Structural Repairs are often used to make damaged or deteriorated portions of the structure whole again and/or for strengthening the structure. SFI’s Structural Engineering Repair services include investigation and design services to help develop repair documents for construction. SFI’s construction administration services during construction often help the contractor with discovered conditions and allow SFI to make general observations to check general conformance with repair documents.
